• A properly installed swimming pool fence completely isolates pool area, blocking any access by a toddler, including crawling underneath. (CPSC standards* suggest no more than a 4 inch clearance between bottom of fence and ground.)
  
• Pool fence gate(s) must swing outward so a child cannot push the gate open and gain access to the pool area. Also, gate locks should be positioned inside the gate, 3 inches below top of gate and there should be no more than a ½ inch gap between gate and pool fence or between each section.*

• Look out for variations in terrain – any point where a child may have an easier time climbing over the pool fence. To prevent this, a swimming pool fence must be at least 4 feet high in all spots.
